Mondarra Gas Storage and Processing Facility

Since 2013, APA have facilitated more than $80k in donations to local community organisations such as the RSL, the local fire service, Surf Club, Lions club, Sea Search & Rescue and more. A large part of these funds were raised through the gifting and repurposing of scrap metal left over from works at the Mondarra facility. The Dongara Men’s Shed chapter removed the plastic insulation from the copper wire offcuts, increasing its value for recycling. 

The Mondarra Gas Storage and Processing Facility helps to mitigate any short-term supply risks such as experienced in 2008 with the Varanus Island incident. The resultant loss of gas supply caused an energy supply crisis in Perth which lasted several months. The Mondarra facility increases flexibility in the WA gas market, giving both buyers and sellers more options in managing gas production and consumption.
